Student answer (Band 6.5)

In contemporary society, there is a growing debate whether every home should have a free water supply or families should pay a certain amount for water supply. Although some people believe that people should pay a charge for water supply, I strongly agree that clean water is a basic human right and every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.

The first reason is that there are many low-income families who donot have enough financial capability to pay for additional living costs like paying bill for water supply. For this reason, insight of using clean water they often use unfiltered water from nearby pond or river. As a result, they often suffer from several waterborne diseases like Cholera, Typhoid, Dysentery, Diarrhoea etc. For instance, an illiterate village man who neither has the financial ability to pay for water supply nor has enough knowledge about benefits of using clean water, often uses contaminated water. This practice leads him to suffer from several diseases. Therefore, free water supply can terminate this problem easily.

Another compelling reason is that free water supply can promote social equality by ensuring that everyone can meet their basic needs, regardless of their financial circumtances. Free water supplies ensure that disadvantaged families have the same access to safe drinking water as wealthy households. Consequently, this policy can reduce inequality and improve living standards. A good example is that, many European countries provide free water supply for their citizens, regardless of their financial circumstances. This demonstates the practice of social equality in those countries. For this reason, free water supply is beneficial for individuals as well as the society.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that water supply should be provided free of charge, because of protecting public health and ensuring social equality.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly support free household water, and the conclusion restates this view. Both main reasons—protecting health and promoting equality—are relevant and supported with examples, including the risks of using contaminated water and the comparison between poorer and wealthier households. This fully addresses the task, and the public-health explanation is particularly persuasive. However, some points are less fully developed: the village-man example largely repeats the earlier point about low-income families, while the claim about European countries is broad and would be stronger with a specific country or explanation of how free provision works. To strengthen the response further, develop the practical implications of your position and support general claims more precisely. (The stated length check confirms the requirement is met; 13 words copied from the prompt were excluded.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from health to social equality is logical, and signposting such as “The first reason,” “Another compelling reason,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the argument. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. At times, however, cohesion feels mechanical because several sentences begin with explicit connectors such as “For this reason,” “As a result,” and “Therefore.” Some links also repeat rather than advance the reasoning, particularly around the village example and the claim that free provision can “terminate this problem.” Use a wider range of linking methods, including clearer pronoun reference and cause-and-effect links within sentences, to make the progression more natural and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “low-income families,” “waterborne diseases,” “contaminated water,” “disadvantaged families,” and “social equality.” These choices make the central ideas clear, and some less common terms show an effort to express the argument precisely. However, several word-choice and collocation problems limit the naturalness of the writing: “terminate this problem” is not an idiomatic way to describe solving it, and “financial capability” and “paying bill for water supply” are awkward in context. There are also spelling errors, including “circumtances” and “demonstates,” and “donot” should be written as two words. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling, while retaining the useful topic-specific vocabulary you already use.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses in “Although some people believe…” and “regardless of their financial circumstances.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the argument remains easy to follow despite some grammatical errors. For greater accuracy, check articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “paying bill for water supply” needs an article or plural form, and “insight of using clean water” does not form a grammatical construction. In “A good example is that, many European countries provide…,” the comma after “that” is unnecessary and the sentence pattern is awkward. The final phrase “because of protecting public health” also needs restructuring. Practise editing these patterns and aim for more consistently accurate complex sentences.
