Student answer (Band 6.5)
Clean and free water should be accessible to everyone as this is a basic human right. I strongly agree with this statement because water is required for every small household task and clean water can improve the quality of life and avoid certain problems which are caused by dirty water.
Firstly, water is needed for almost every basic thing from drinking to cleaning. Clean water is used for the tiniest but most necessary tasks such as washing hands, utensils and personal hygiene. Life instantly pauses without water. It is needed in large quantities and paying for it can put unnecessary financial burden on low-income families. Consequently, they can be deprived of the most basic necessity and it can make their life even more difficult.
Secondly, most of the households can not buy mineral water and drink tap water. Clean water should be supplied to every household to avoid any diseases caused by dirty or hard water. A lot of diseases are caused by dirty water such as diarrhea, kidney stones liver cysts etc. and these can be avoided by using clean drinking water. Additionally, hard water does not clean body or clothes effectively and more amount of soap and detergents is used which releases more and more harmful chemicals in the environment and they in turn damage the already compromised environment. Hence, clean water can be a solution to a lot of problems which are otherwise caused by unclean or dirty water.
In conclusion, free water is a basic need as some people may find it hard to pay for it and simply using clean water can avoid a lot of issues related to dirty water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you strongly agree that clean water should be freely available, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give relevant reasons, including the burden on low-income households and the health and environmental effects of unsafe or hard water. This covers the task well, and the discussion shows some development through examples such as handwashing and disease prevention. However, the two main arguments are not equally precise: the claim that hard water causes kidney stones and liver cysts is asserted without support, and the environmental point about detergents is only briefly connected to free household supply. To strengthen the response, explain how a free basic supply could be funded or managed, and develop the evidence behind the health claims.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates the position. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Consequently,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This gives the essay coherent progression, although some linking is mechanical and ideas within the second body paragraph become crowded. For example, the discussion moves from diseases to hard water, soap use, and environmental damage without clearly separating these related but distinct points. The reference in “they in turn damage” also makes the connection between chemicals and environmental harm less direct. Use clearer topic sentences and divide or sequence supporting points so each paragraph develops one main line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial burden,” “personal hygiene,” “deprived,” and “compromised environment.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more specific language, but some word choices and collocations are imprecise or repetitive: “every basic thing,” “Life instantly pauses,” and repeated references to “dirty water” sound informal or broad. “Mineral water” is not quite the same as safe, treated drinking water, which weakens precision in that sentence. Aim for more exact topic vocabulary and avoid repeating general terms; for example, distinguish contaminated water from hard water and describe the relevant health risks carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because water is required…” and “which are otherwise caused…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “most of the households can not buy” needs more natural article use and the standard spelling “cannot”; “more amount of soap” has an incorrect comparative construction; and the list “diarrhea, kidney stones liver cysts etc.” needs clearer punctuation. The long sentence beginning “Additionally, hard water…” also contains several linked clauses that would be easier to control if divided. Review articles, comparative forms, and punctuation in lists, while continuing to use complex sentences.
