Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that everyone should have access to clean water, as water is a basic necessity. Therefore, there is no charge on water supply so, everyone can use this freely. This essay will dicuss the arguments on water supply and I will also discuss my suggestion in it.

On the one hand, water is a basic human right without this life is impossible. A person can live many days without eating food but without water its hard to live. Government should provide clean water without any charge to people as it helps to remove many health problems occur in society due to water and prove that everyone is equal to enjoy natural resources. For example,in a city if water is highly charged poor people may use alternatives that are harmful for health and cause diseases like cholera. This is helpful for both economy and the people that are living here as if people stay healthy the economic resources used in hosipitals would be usable for others national works.

On the other hand, If a thing is available without any charge people use this without thinking which cause its wastage. So, from my prespective water should be availble to everyone but its rate must be balanced. If people waste water goverment should heavily charged them so that in future they may do not do these kind of things.

To sum up, water is a human need and must be availble freely so everyone can use this for better survival but government should have to control the wastage of water by people. So, if both steps could managed it is good to supply of water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the central issue and give a position: water should be available freely, while waste should be discouraged through charges. The health argument is relevant and the example of poorer residents turning to unsafe alternatives helps support your view. You also consider the opposing concern that free access may encourage waste, so the response covers both sides of the question. However, the position is not fully consistent: you first argue that there should be no charge, then say the rate should be balanced, without clarifying whether this means a basic free supply or payment for all use. The economic point about hospital resources is also less clearly explained. Define your policy and develop each supporting reason more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “To sum up” make the overall direction easy to follow. However, some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, the move from equal access to natural resources to the effect on the economy is abrupt, and “This is helpful for both economy and the people” does not clearly identify what “This” refers to. The conclusion repeats the main points rather than resolving the tension between free provision and a balanced rate. Use clearer references and connect each example directly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “clean water,” “natural resources,” “wastage” and “cholera,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “economic resources” and “alternatives.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, as in “water supply,” “use this freely,” “heavily charged them” and “better survival.” Spelling errors such as “dicuss,” “hosipitals,” “prespective” and “availble” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, but they limit precision. Build a wider set of natural collocations for discussing public services, affordability and conservation, and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if water is highly charged” and a reason clause with “as it helps.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message is generally understandable. Some errors remain in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms. For instance, “without this life is impossible” needs clearer punctuation and a more complete connection, while “people use this without thinking which cause its wastage” has an agreement error and an unclear clause structure. “Government should have to control” also combines verb forms awkwardly. Practise accurate complex sentences with clear clause boundaries, and check subject–verb agreement and article use when revising.
