Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is being argued that clean water is a basic necessity of human beings and it is their right to have access to it free of charge. I disagree with this, as free access to clean water can lead to its excess use and wastage, which can cause shortage of pure water in future years.

One of the biggest disadvantage of free water supply in homes is its excess use without any monitoring. Clean drinking water is a blessing and it should be used responsibly. If homes are provided with free water, they will start using it without any check and can lead to its wastage. If something is free of charges, it value is declined and people start using it excessively.

Clean drinking water is a blessing and its wastage and over use can lead to its shortage in future years. Unavalibilty of clean water can cause many diseases and health issues which can result in societies falling and communtiies weakening over time. For instance, in most countries of Asia, clean water access it very limited. People struggle to find pure water to drink, this is causing disease in childrens and adults. Even in oorder to grow crops, clean water is required, if there is no clean water this can cause severe shortage of food.

In conclusion, the clean water is basic human right, but its free provision, without any check or control can cause its excess use and wastage leading to water scarcity issues in coming years. There might be some check and balance required even if it is provided free of charge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree with free household water because it may encourage waste and contribute to future scarcity. You support this with relevant points about health and crop production, and the conclusion restates your view while allowing for checks and controls. However, the response addresses the proposal less fully than it could: it does not distinguish access to a basic amount of water from unlimited free use, nor explain who should pay or how monitoring would work. The example about water access in Asian countries is broad and its link to the claim about free provision is not fully explained. Develop this example with a specific situation and explain how it supports your argument; also consider a counterargument about affordability.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The main progression—from possible waste to the consequences of scarcity—is understandable, and phrases such as “For instance” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, the first two body paragraphs repeat the idea that free water may be wasted, and the second paragraph begins by repeating that clean water is a blessing. This limits the development of the argument. Some links between ideas are also abrupt, particularly the move from water scarcity to disease and then food shortages. Give each paragraph a distinct purpose and use clearer explanation to connect each consequence to your central position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “wastage,” “water scarcity,” “health issues” and “provided free of charge.” These choices make your main argument clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision, such as “excess use,” “its value is declined,” “Unavalibilty,” and “oorder.” Some phrases are also repetitive, especially “clean water” and “free water.” Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe “excess use” as “overconsumption,” and replace “its value is declined” with “people may take it for granted.” More varied terms such as “safe drinking water” and “water supply” would also help avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If homes are provided with free water, they will start using it…” and a relative clause in “which can cause shortage…”. The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “One of the biggest disadvantage” needs plural agreement, while “it value” and “access it very limited” show errors with possessives and verb forms. The sentence beginning “Even in order to grow crops…” joins separate ideas with a comma, making the relationship unclear. Review subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and practise combining clauses accurately. More controlled complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
