Student answer (Band 6.0)

Water is an essential need and unquestionably access to clean water is a basic human right. However when the question arises if there should be a free of charge water supply for every household, a set of valid doubts also arise on my mind.

Multiple households in various parts of the world do not have access to clean water let alone water in general. Therefore having water supply is valuable and I strongly believe that every household be charged for it. When we are dealing with water, we are not only dealing with use and implementations of water but with an element of nature availble in abundance. Only a fraction of the available water can be used for household chores. To make this possible, the water that reaches our homes undergoes a multi-stage process. Industries are constantly involved to adhere to the regulations imposed by the government in order for the water to be accessible to citizens.

Having a water supply free of charge will result into a negative economic surge in the financial portfolios of the industries involved in water management. Furthermore, having water as a resource negligible of costs can certainly be misused. For example, in a co-operative housing society, if a household consumes extraordinaty amounts of water it raises a society-wide concern. The consumer household however has access to the resource free of charge and financially has nothing to lose.

In conclusion, water is avaible in abundance but clean water is valuable, therefore I disagree that every home should have a water supply free of charge. Every household should be fairly charged on the measures of the water consumed respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with free household water and support charging according to consumption. You address the central issue and give relevant reasons, including the treatment process and the risk of waste when water has no cost. The example of a household using unusually large amounts also helps illustrate your concern. This meets the task well, while showing some of the fuller development expected at the next level. In particular, the claim that free supply would harm water-management industries is asserted rather than explained, and the point about water being abundant sits uneasily beside the limits on usable water. Clarify that distinction and develop one example with a specific consequence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs that present reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Overall progression is coherent, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “When we are dealing with water” does not clearly connect the abundance of water to the costs of treating and supplying it, while “this” in “To make this possible” has an uncertain reference. The second body paragraph also moves quickly from industry finances to household waste. Make each paragraph’s main point explicit and use clearer references to show how each supporting sentence develops it.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “multi-stage process,” “regulations,” and “water management.” These choices communicate the subject clearly, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “doubts also arise on my mind,” “negative economic surge,” and “negligible of costs.” There are also spelling errors, including “availble,” “extraordinaty,” and “avaible.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Prefer established phrases such as “concerns arise,” “financial losses,” and “available at no cost,” and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses and conditional reasoning, as in “if a household consumes… it raises a society-wide concern.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation issues persist. For example, “I strongly believe that every household be charged” needs a suitable verb form, such as “should be charged”; “will result into” uses an incorrect preposition within the pattern; and “on the measures of the water consumed respectively” is structurally unclear. The opening also needs punctuation after introductory “However.” Work on modal constructions, preposition patterns, and sentence endings, while keeping the useful variety of structures you already attempt.
