Student answer (Band 6.0)
71% of human body is made up of water. Therefore, water is vital for life and obviously a basic human right. I strongly agree that it should be provided free of cost. Water is needed for cleaning, drinking, and for other life activities. One of the most important use of water is for drinking. Governments should take measures to provide safe drinking water for the people to prevent them from catching water-born diseases. So, it is important to install water-filtration plants in residential and commercial areas. Filtered water is important because the use of hard water or contaminated water leads to several health issues including diseases like typhoid, hepatitis, and gastrointestinal problems. I believe that life without food can be lived longer than life without water.
We can see areas in the world where drought led to many deaths of human and animals. Deaths with drought are specifically seen in some African countries which are under-developed and poor. Therefore, I urge United Nations and developed countries to take measures to provide clean water for household use and safe drinking water for low socioeconomic countries. Other than this, it is the prime responsibility of local bodies to facilitate their people and provide them with the basic necessities of life. If I talk about my own experience, I faced three of my children fell sick just by drinking un-filtered water. They caught viral hepatitis and it took them a whole month to recover. Therefore, safe drinking water is basic necessity and should be provided anyway. Being muslim it is my belief that no water means no life. it is because Allah Almighty has created us with water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you strongly agree that water should be provided free, and you support this with relevant points about health, drought and personal experience. The example of your children becoming ill after drinking untreated water gives the argument a concrete, personal basis. You also address the need for safe household water, not just water in general. However, the response focuses more on why clean water is essential than on why the supply should be free of charge. The suggestion that governments and international bodies should act is relevant, but the funding and responsibility for free provision are not explained. Developing that central issue, while qualifying broad claims about drought and poorer countries, would make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has an overall progression from the importance of water, to drought and public responsibility, and finally to personal experience and belief. Linking expressions such as “Therefore” and “Other than this” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the two main paragraphs contain several different points without clear internal grouping, and “Therefore” is repeated, making some connections feel mechanical. The shift from global drought to local bodies and then to your children’s illness could be signposted more clearly. Use separate paragraphs for the health argument, the case for publicly funded provision, and your personal example, and make each paragraph develop one main point. This would strengthen the organisation and make references between ideas easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “water-filtration plants,” “contaminated water,” “drought,” and “basic necessities,” which helps communicate the subject clearly. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as naming illnesses. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however: “water-born diseases” should be “waterborne diseases,” “Deaths with drought” is unclear, and “life activities” is imprecise. “Low socioeconomic countries” is also not a natural description of countries. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common collocations for public services and water access, and check spelling and word forms when using less familiar terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional structure in “If I talk about my own experience” and clauses explaining causes and consequences. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “71% of human body” needs a determiner, “One of the most important use” has a number-agreement error, and “I faced three of my children fell sick” has an incorrect clause structure. The final sentence also begins “it” with a lowercase letter after a full stop. Review articles, singular and plural agreement, and how to introduce reported experiences. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your existing sentence variety, would make the argument smoother.
