Student answer (Band 6.0)
Having access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is free of charge. I agree with it because water is a necessity for human beings and without water survival is impossible
I think water should be free for everyone because water is a need and without it a person can't survive for more than 3 days. In countries like Nigeria, Senegal, and other African countries, where water is basically a luxury and something the wealthy individuals have easy access to, Whereas the large proportion of the population die of thirst because they can't pay for water. A lot of Africans are working hard just to get access to water on which all of their money is spent and they're left with no money to buy other necessities such as food or clothes.
In places like India there is no access to clean water for the lower class so thousands of people die from contaminated water that contain various kinds of diseases or from exposed water bodies that produce mosquitoes that spread malaria and dengue. Clean water is mostly bottled and expensive which only the upper class can afford.
Access to clean water is a basic right of every human being and just because someone is not rich does not mean that they deserve dirty water. This issue should be taken to the World Health Organization where it is given serious attention. Dying just because of not getting a basic right should not be something anyone should have to face.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that every home should receive clean water without charge, and the examples about affordability and contaminated supplies are relevant. You address the main question, but some points are less fully developed than others. For instance, the discussion of people spending all their money on water would be stronger with a specific explanation of how free household provision could be funded or managed. The claim that large numbers “die of thirst” is also broad and would benefit from precise support. The response contains 240 words, so it is 10 words below the required minimum; 19 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop one or two arguments further and add a concise conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs give examples, and a final paragraph restates the principle. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. However, progression between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the essay relies heavily on repeated references to water and access. The transition from affordability in African countries to contaminated water in India could be made more explicit, showing how each example supports the same argument. The sentence beginning “In countries like Nigeria…” also becomes difficult to follow because it contains several claims joined together, and “Whereas” is capitalised mid-sentence. Use clearer topic sentences, vary referencing, and separate supporting points into manageable sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use adequate vocabulary to discuss the topic, including relevant terms such as “contaminated water,” “basic right,” “necessities,” and “upper class.” These choices help communicate your concerns about health and inequality. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “exposed water bodies,” although this phrase is not a natural way to describe unsafe water sources. Some wording is repetitive or imprecise: “water is a need” repeats the idea in the introduction, while “die of thirst” may overstate the situation without evidence. Aim for more precise collocations and a wider range of terms for affordability, sanitation, and public provision. This would make the argument more measured and academically appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “countries … where water is basically a luxury” and the clause beginning “just because someone is not rich.” The meaning is generally clear, but some grammar and punctuation errors remain. The opening is a run-on sentence: “I agree with it because … impossible” needs a full stop or a clearer conjunction. In “water that contain various kinds of diseases,” the verb does not agree with the singular noun “water,” and the sentence beginning “In countries like Nigeria…” has an unclear boundary before “Whereas.” There is also a missing comma after introductory “Therefore.” Check sentence boundaries, agreement, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
