Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address the topic and give reasons on both sides: water is essential for drinking, cleaning and cooking, while providing it without charge could place pressure on a country’s finances. Your conclusion supports access as a right, so a position is present, but it is not consistently clear: the economic paragraph argues against free provision, while the conclusion does not explain how you resolve that concern. The examples, including the reference to Africa, are broad and not clearly connected to a specific policy or outcome. To strengthen the response, state your degree of agreement in the introduction and develop two relevant reasons with clearer explanation—for example, how governments could protect access while funding water infrastructure sustainably.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Phrases such as “To begin with,” “Another point to consider” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined into long, loosely connected sequences. The shift from water’s importance to the cost of supplying it is not clearly framed as a counterargument, and the final paragraph introduces rivers and mountains without linking them to the question of household charges. Use shorter, more focused paragraphs and make each one develop a single point. Clearer links between claims, explanations and examples would make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “economic” and “capital,” and attempt phrases such as “a big loss” to discuss the financial consequences. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the response difficult to understand, such as “deta,” “outher problems” and “the bettom of earth.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, including “take us in another direction” and “water is the secret of life.” Aim for accurate, direct wording and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “water infrastructure,” “public expenditure” and “affordable access” would help you explain the issue without relying on repeated general words like “important” and “problems.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with linking words, but control of sentence structure is weak and errors frequently make meaning harder to follow. For example, the opening has no clear grammatical structure (“while it a commonly held belief”), and “every person … deserve be able” contains errors in subject–verb agreement and verb form. Other examples include “the important having water” and “the country will be in trouble … because of poverty,” where sentence construction or relationships between ideas are unclear. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, with several sentences running together. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add one subordinate clause at a time. Check agreement, articles and verb forms when editing.
