Student answer (Band 6.0)

Clean water access is a fundamental human right. I agree that water supply should be provided to every home without any charge. Since water is used extensively in daily activities, water should be provided to every household free of cost. The inability of the poor people of buying water is the another reason to make water supply to houses free of cost.

Wide range of activities are done in houses everyday using water. For example, we do things such as wash our dishes, take bath, cook food, water the plants, and so on using water. These are the most common daily activities. These activities need a lot of water everyday. If the water supply is not free of cost, then a huge amount of money will be needed by the end of a month, which is not feasible for everyone.

If water is charged, then the poor community of a country will suffer the most. The income of indigent people is quite limited. They struggle to manage their daily expense. If they have to buy water for daily activities, it will not be possible for them. For instance, people living in the hill tracts of Bangladesh will be the most affected ones. There is already scarcity of water in those areas. Moreover, the live below the poverty line. If they are charged for water supply to their houses, they will have to beg for money. It will be a matter of shame for them.

Based on the reasons mentioned above, I completely agree with that water supply to every home should be free. For managing daily activities, the extensive use of water makes it a candidate to supply it free of cost. In addition, the limited income of poor people makes free water supply a must.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you agree that household water should be free. You give two relevant reasons—water is needed for routine domestic activities, and charges would burden people with low incomes—and illustrate the second with the example of communities in Bangladesh. This addresses the question, but the reasons are not developed equally. The list of household uses explains why water is essential, yet it does not fully establish why all household use should be free rather than, for example, a basic amount. The Bangladesh example also needs clearer explanation and support. To strengthen the response, explain how free provision could protect access to essential water while addressing the practical implications of supplying it without charge.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. The progression from everyday needs to the effect on poorer households is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “Moreover,” and “Based on the reasons mentioned above” help signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “free of cost” and the repeated summary of your two reasons in the conclusion. The Bangladesh example also moves abruptly from water scarcity to poverty and then to shame. Use clearer transitions to show how these points connect, and develop each paragraph around a more distinct sequence of claim, explanation, and evidence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic and make some attempts at less common wording, including “fundamental human right,” “indigent,” and “scarcity.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, which limits the fluency and flexibility of the vocabulary. For example, “the poor community of a country” is awkward, while “daily expense” and “a candidate to supply it free of cost” do not express your meaning naturally. “Free of cost” is also repeated often, and “water supply” is used where “water” or “water services” may fit better. Aim for accurate collocations and vary repeated phrases; this will make your argument sound more natural without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple statements and longer conditional sentences, such as “If the water supply is not free of cost, then a huge amount of money will be needed by the end of a month.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “Wide range of activities are done” (missing article and subject–verb agreement), “the another reason,” and “Moreover, the live below the poverty line,” where the subject is unclear and the verb form is incorrect. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “the inability of the poor people of buying water.” Practise accurate noun phrases, agreement, and complete sentence structures. More reliable control of these patterns, alongside your existing use of conditionals, would improve clarity.
