Student answer (Band 6.0)

Filtered water is a necessary human right so that everyone should have a free of cost clean water facility. I strongly agree with this statement because clean water can save people from a lot of diseases and in rural areas people get infected due to bad sewerage system.

One of the main reason of people illness and damage to their gut health is the impurities in the water. The unfiltered direct tap water is available at every home and citizens use it in cooking, drinking and etc. Moreover, poor people cannot afford to pay for filtered water, so they prefer to drink it directly from tap. If it will available free of cost half of the physiological health problems will diminish.

Government should ban factories who throw their waste material into rivers, canals and oceans because factories play huge role in water pollution. Additionally, whenever you go to a hospital almost one third of patients are suffering due to drinking dirty water such as, kidney, intestines and stomach issues. Moreover, by using water that has different chemicals in it like chlorine it weakens and discolors the teeth. For instance, government or even private sectors that have control of sewerage system add these kind of chemicals in it to make it look clear. However, it has huge amount of dirt in it. They do it just to make people assume that they are having crystal clear pure water. In actual, it is harmful for the residents.

In conclusion, I determinedly agree that clean water should be available to everyone neither he/she is can afford it or not because it is a basic right of every citizen to be provided by a clear water so that they can work better for the country and for their families without any difficulty. Because raw and unfiltered tap water can cause damage to the people health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening and conclusion: you strongly support free access to clean water, and you give relevant reasons involving illness, affordability and pollution. The discussion of poorer households’ inability to pay is particularly relevant to the proposal that water be free. You also offer examples of possible health effects and industrial contamination. However, the response does not fully develop how a free household supply would be delivered or funded, and the claim that free provision would reduce “half” of health problems is unsupported. The discussion of chemicals and water treatment is also unclear and risks weakening your argument. To strengthen the response, explain the distinction between safe treatment and pollution, and develop fewer claims with clearer evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Additionally” and “For instance” help signal relationships between points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with several ideas joined by repeated transitions rather than developed in a clear sequence. The second body paragraph moves from factory waste to hospital patients, then to chlorine and the appearance of water, making its central point difficult to follow. References such as “it” and “they” are not always clear. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, and use explicit references—for example, identify whether “they” means authorities, companies or factories.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “impurities,” “water pollution,” “sewerage system” and “physiological health problems,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “basic right” and “provided.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “free of cost,” “people illness,” “damage to their gut health” and “crystal clear pure water.” Some expressions are vague or imprecise, such as “different chemicals” and “huge amount of dirt.” Aim for standard collocations and precise terms, such as “free of charge,” “waterborne illnesses” and “contaminants.” This would make your meaning more natural and exact without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “because,” “so” and “whenever.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main position is generally understandable. However, errors occur across sentence forms and sometimes make meaning harder to follow. Examples include “One of the main reason … is,” “If it will available,” and “neither he/she is can afford it or not”; these show problems with agreement, verb forms and clause construction. The final sentence beginning “Because” is also a fragment, while “citizens use it in cooking, drinking and etc.” has an awkwardly formed list. Practise building accurate conditional and contrast clauses, and check each sentence for a complete subject and verb before adding complexity.
