Student answer (Band 6.5)

Availability of clean drinking water is an essential human need and should be considered as a fundamental right for everyone. While it is often argued that each household should recieve free of cost water supply in order to meet their daily requirements. I strongly agree with this viewpoint as charging people for water consumption can increase poverty and create serious public health problems.

Firstly providing free access to clean water would help to protect the health and well being of population. Water is necessary for drinking, cooking, washing, cleaning and so many other household chores. When people have to pay for water supply, they will neglect their overall hygiene in order to avoid spending their money on it. As a result of that they may consume contaminated water from dirty ponds, rivers and other sources, which can ultimately increase the risk of different diseases such as diarrhea and cholera. Therefore, provision of free of charge safe drinking water is essential to avoid serious public health issues.

Secondly, free water accessibilty would promote social equality and reduce finacial burden from under previlleged families. Water is a survival need for human beings not a luxury, so it is impossible for anyone to remain alive without it. Therefore, governments should provide a handsome quantity of water to everyone without any fee and anyone who uses beyond that limit can be charged for extra usage. By using this approach, all the residents will recieve an equal amount of free water without any descrimination and added financial burden. This will not only enhance the social equality but also improve the socio economic status of poor families by not paying any money for basic daily life need.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with the statement that every household should be provided with free of cost safe water supply. However, governments should limit the quantity of water which is being supplied to everyone so that water wastage can be minimized and reduced.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear throughout: you strongly agree that households should receive water without charge. You address the main issue with two relevant reasons—protecting public health and reducing the financial burden on disadvantaged families—and support them with examples such as contaminated water, diarrhoea and cholera. The proposal to provide a basic quantity free and charge for excess use also adds a practical qualification. This is a well-focused response with ideas extended and supported. To strengthen it further, develop the affordability argument more precisely: explain how charges affect low-income households, rather than making broad claims such as free water improving their “socio economic status.” You could also clarify how the proposed free allocation would be sufficient for essential needs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position and qualification. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression explicit. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because the paragraphs rely heavily on formulaic transitions and repeated references to free water. Some links, including “As a result of that,” are less natural, and the relationship between the free basic quantity and the public-health argument could be made more explicit. Use a wider range of referencing and linking, and connect each example more directly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “fundamental right,” “contaminated water,” “public health issues,” “social equality,” and “financial burden.” These choices communicate the argument clearly, and attempts at more formal language suit the task. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “free of cost water supply,” “free water accessibility,” and “handsome quantity of water.” Spelling errors—including “recieve,” “accessibilty,” “finacial,” and “previlleged”—also limit the impression of control. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, “a sufficient quantity of water” is more appropriate than “a handsome quantity,” while “water provided free of charge” is a more idiomatic phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and result structures: “When people have to pay for water supply, they will neglect…” and “By using this approach, all the residents will receive…”. Meaning remains clear, and the essay is generally easy to understand. Some grammatical errors remain, however. The opening “While it is often argued…” is a sentence fragment because it is not joined to a main clause. In “Firstly providing free access…,” the introductory phrase needs punctuation, and “the well being of population” needs more accurate article use. There are also occasional problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation. Review clause completeness, articles, and commas after introductory phrases; greater accuracy across these structures would improve control.
