Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the comtemporary world, the problem of shortage of water is rising in the world because of its wastage and excess domestic usage in households. Moreover, having clean and fresh water is a right of every individual in the society. Furthermore, Government should provide free water supply in every households. However, I diagree with the statement and I will discuss further in this paragraph.

To begin with, the first reason to disagree with that is water wastage because when a goverment gives free supply of water people will not understand the value of it and waste it by forgetting to turn off the taps and even they freely use the water by doing excessive cleaning of their floors, roads and also use it for domestic purpose. For instance, on occassions like Holi and diwali people waste water by playing with it and mostly for cleaning their houses.

Nevertheless, In many areas, specially in rural areas people already struggles to earn money and it is very difficult for them to pay utility bills such as water bills so, goverment should provide free supply for them as they can easily use water for domestic uasage and especially for drinking. Moreover, if government provide sufficient supply of water to them, they would not face any water scarcity especially in summers.

In conclusion, I would like to say that access to clean and fresh water is a right of every individual in the society and people should value it and use it properly and take care there would be no wastage of it. Moreover, government should supply sufficent amount of water accordingly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear overall disagreement and provide relevant points about waste and the difficulty poorer rural households may have paying water bills. However, the response only partially addresses the central question of whether every home should receive water free of charge: the second body paragraph argues that some people need free water, which qualifies rather than supports your stated disagreement, and the conclusion does not resolve this tension. The examples of water use during Holi and Diwali are relevant, but the claims about free supply causing waste and preventing scarcity are not sufficiently explained or supported. Develop a consistent position and clarify whether you favour free basic provision, targeted assistance, or charging all households.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and each paragraph has a general focus. However, progression between ideas is limited: the paragraph beginning “Nevertheless” shifts from opposing free water to arguing that it should be free for rural residents, without explaining how this fits your position. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Nevertheless” are frequent but do not always show the precise relationship between claims. Some sentences also combine several points, making the reasoning harder to follow. Organise the essay around a consistent argument, use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s role, and connect examples directly to the claim they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “water scarcity,” “utility bills,” “domestic usage,” and “wastage,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “access to clean and fresh water.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “comtemporary,” “diagree,” “goverment,” and “sufficent.” Some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “freely use the water” and “take care there would be no wastage.” These do not prevent the main message from being understood, but they reduce precision. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for discussing public services, affordability and conservation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “because,” “when,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur regularly in sentence structure and agreement. For example, “people already struggles” should use a plural verb, while “if government provide” needs an article and a correctly formed verb. “Every households” also has a mismatch between the determiner and noun, and the opening sentence contains an awkwardly constructed cause-and-effect relationship. Punctuation around longer sentences is sometimes unclear, particularly where clauses are joined with commas. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms, and divide sentences when they contain several separate ideas.
