Student answer (Band 5.0)

Access to clean drinking water is essential for human survival and many people believe that every household should recieve free water supply because it's basic human right. I strongly agree with this view as clean water is a basic nessecity for maintaining a good health anf it also ensure equal oppurtunities for everyone.

First, access to clean water is the fundamental right of every human being. Without clean water humans can suffer many health illness for example cholera and diarrhoea. This is concerning for elderly people and children whose immune system is comparatively weak. Government should ensure every household has access to clean water free of cost. For example, families below the poverty line may struggle to afford basic necessities.

Secondly, providing free water would help reduce financial inequality within society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

Your position is clear: “I strongly agree,” and you give relevant reasons concerning health and financial inequality. The example of families below the poverty line also supports the point about affordability. However, the response addresses the task only minimally because the second reason is introduced but not explained: “providing free water would help reduce financial inequality within society” is the final sentence. The health argument also needs fuller development, such as explaining how free provision would improve access or reduce illness. The response is 131 words, so it does not meet the required minimum of 250 words. Develop both reasons with explanation and specific examples, and add a conclusion that restates your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, understandable structure: an introduction states your view, followed by a paragraph beginning “First” and a second point introduced by “Secondly.” These signposts help the reader identify the main ideas. However, progression is limited because the second point is not developed, and the response ends abruptly without a conclusion. Connections between claims and supporting details could also be made clearer; for instance, explain directly how free water would reduce inequality after introducing that idea. Build each body paragraph around one reason, then add explanation and an example before moving to the next point. A concluding paragraph would give the response a more complete overall shape.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “clean drinking water,” “fundamental right,” “immune system,” and “financial inequality.” These choices make your main ideas understandable, and there is some variety beyond very basic wording. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word combinations are noticeable, including “recieve,” “nessecity,” “oppurtunities,” and “health illness.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “free water supply” and “a good health.” Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases. More precise language—for example, “water-related diseases” and “access to an affordable supply”—would help express your arguments more naturally and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms. For example, “Without clean water humans can suffer many health illness, for example cholera and diarrhoea” introduces a condition, while the opening sentence combines related ideas. The meaning is generally understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. In “it also ensure equal opportunities,” the verb does not agree with its subject; “it” requires “ensures.” The phrase “every household has access” also needs an article before “clean water” only if referring to a particular supply, while “a good health” should be expressed without the article. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence punctuation, and aim to produce a wider range of accurate sentence patterns.
