Student answer (Band 5.5)

In our earth the 90% of area is filled with water than land. But unfortunately, the clean water that can use for daily purposes is limited. Water is one of the essential factors that need for every humanbeing. Therefore it is argued that every home should have a free water supply. This essay will discuss about this state and give my opinion why I partially agree with this.

Firstly, Water is essential for everyone for their daily purposes such as drinking, cooking and washing..etc. Therefore everyone should have access to a clean water and it can be considered as basic human right. Therefore it is important to everyone have fair access to the clean water. But with the limited amount of water around the world, it quite difficult to provide water free of charge. For example, people who live in drought areas in poor countries such as somalia, Ethiopia and Niger suffer more without access clean water.

However, providing water with free of charge has short-term and long -term negative impact on both society and the environment. For society, the water supply will declined with the time, effecting direct to the next generations. In addition, government may have to utilize for money for cleaning purposes of water which may lead to high cost.

In long term, these limited amount of water usage directly effect to the environment hwich may cause to the acid rains an climate change. Therefore charge cosiderable amount of money to provide water is better option because it reduce the wastage of clean water, and may collect some of the money that use for cleaning purposes.

In conclusion, although access to clean water is basic human right, I believe with limited amout of water it should not be completely free and charging considerable amount of money is best option.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree that clean water is a right, but argue that it should not be entirely free. You address both access and the consequences of free provision, and the examples of drought-affected countries help make the issue relevant. However, some points are not fully explained. For instance, the claim that free supply would reduce water availability for future generations needs a clearer link to consumption or resource management. The reference to acid rain and climate change is also asserted rather than supported, and its connection to water pricing is unclear. Develop these ideas with more precise reasoning and explain how a fair charge could protect access for low-income households while discouraging waste.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different considerations, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the overall progression easy to follow. At times, though, linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “Therefore.” Some connections between claims also need to be clearer: the move from water charges to acid rain and climate change does not show how one leads to the other. Improve cohesion by using more varied, precise transitions and by ensuring each sentence develops the point immediately before it. Clearer referencing and tighter links between examples and claims would make the argument flow more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “drought areas,” “water supply,” and “wastage,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “considerable amount of money.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “in our earth,” “effecting direct,” “acid rains,” and “cosiderable” are examples. Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “cleaning purposes” when you mean treating or purifying water. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships for this topic and checking spelling and word forms. More precise vocabulary would help you express the environmental and financial arguments convincingly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The overall meaning can usually be followed, but errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “it is important to everyone have fair access” needs a different clause structure, while “the water supply will declined” has an incorrect verb form. Several sentences also omit necessary articles or prepositions, as in “without access clean water.” Punctuation is inconsistent, including the double full stop after “washing” and missing spaces after sentence endings. Practise accurate clause patterns and verb forms, then proofread each sentence for agreement and punctuation.
