Student answer (Band 5.5)

In contemporary society, government are not working on the basic rights like cleansing of water and environment. The basic rights of human is to access of clean water. Therefore, in homes water should have to provide free of cost. In this essay, I will discuss the disadvantages of supplying free water to homes because I totally disagree with free supply of water.

To begin with I will like to discuss that if we supply water free of cost to homes then government and living individuals of country can face many challenges. For instance government have to take loan from other countries and because of this prices of petrol, vegetables and many other things which is useful for daily life will be increase. In this situation, country can find many uphill battle like the currency of country will be decrease and individuals living in country have to pay high taxes. Because of this constitution have to change the change the seat. So they have to limited

In addition, I would like to discuss about that when we supply water free of cost people may become careless about water consumption. They may use more water than they need although this can cause water shortages in the future. If people use more water then government need extra efforts to clean water and environment. The water maintenance will be difficult for government. Therefore, government have to supply limited supply of water with less assistance from other countries and less taxes for country.

To sum up, I strongly disagree that water should be provided free of cost to every home because it can increase the financial burden on the government and encourage people to waste water. Therefore people should use water carefully and pay reasonable charges on it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you disagree with free household water, and you give two relevant reasons—government costs and the risk of waste. The conclusion restates these points, so the response addresses the central question. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The claim that free water would lead to loans, higher prices, and taxes is asserted without explaining the connection or giving a concrete example. The sentence about the constitution and changing “the seat” is unclear and does not support your argument. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation or a relevant example, and acknowledge that access to clean water is a basic right while explaining how charges could still protect access for everyone.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “To begin with,” “In addition,” and “To sum up” help signal the stages of your argument. However, progression within the first body paragraph is difficult to follow: the move from government borrowing to prices, currency, taxes, and then the constitution is not clearly connected. Some linking phrases are also repetitive, particularly “I would like to discuss.” The unfinished ending “So they have to limited” interrupts the paragraph and leaves the point incomplete. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, explain it in a logical sequence, and use references and transitions that make the relationships between ideas explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main concerns, including “water consumption,” “water shortages,” “financial burden,” and “reasonable charges.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “uphill battle,” although it does not fit naturally in the sentence about national economic problems. Several word choices and collocations are awkward or imprecise, including “cleansing of water,” “free of cost,” and “the currency of country will be decrease.” Repetition of “free of cost” and “government” also limits variety. Choose more natural phrases for this topic, such as “water treatment,” “free of charge,” and “the currency may depreciate,” and check that idioms match the meaning you intend.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure (“if we supply water… then…”) and a concession with “although.” However, errors occur frequently and sometimes make the argument hard to follow. Examples include “government are,” “the basic rights of human is,” and “government have,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect. Verb forms are also problematic in “prices… will be increase” and “they have to limited.” The sentence “So they have to limited” is incomplete, and “change the change the seat” contains an unrevised repetition that disrupts meaning. Practise accurate agreement and verb patterns, and proofread each sentence for a complete subject and verb. Shorter, controlled sentences would help you express the ideas clearly while you build accuracy in complex structures.
