Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two time periods and report several relevant changes, including the replacement of the sheep area by parking and camping, the addition of solar panels and a shop, and the conversion of the barn area to holiday cottages. The concluding overview that the site has been developed is also relevant. However, some key details are missing or unclear: the internal road layout, the continued presence of the farmhouse and chickens, and the fact that the fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas remain. Some locations are misreported, such as saying the shop is “in the corner” of the fruit-tree area and that the barn itself is replaced by cottages. Cover the main changes more accurately and compare what remains as well as what is new.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable sequence: it first describes the earlier plan, then the present-day changes, and ends with an overall statement. This gives the reader a basic sense of progression. However, the organisation within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the 1950 description, where several locations are joined in a list-like sequence. Linking phrases such as “To commence with” and repeated uses of “At the end” do not always clarify spatial relationships. The overview also repeats the sheep-area change rather than drawing together the main pattern of development. Group features by area or by what has changed and what remains, and use precise references such as “to the north-east” or “south of the farmhouse” to make connections clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “track,” “river,” “fruit trees,” “solar panels” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can identify many of the features being described. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “the track where all the area of farm is linked,” “at the back side of farm” and “the barn is replaced by the holiday cottages.” Spelling errors, including “elecricity” and “construted,” also reduce accuracy. Choose more precise verbs for map changes and use standard location phrases. For example, describe a feature as “located beside” or “situated to the north of” another, rather than relying on vague phrases such as “at the end.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, and the time contrast between 1950 and today is generally understandable. However, sentence structures are limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. Examples include “the site of farm,” “the same same site,” and “the beechwood farm has very large area,” where articles or sentence construction are faulty. Tense control is also inconsistent: “is replaced” is used for a change that has already occurred, while the description of the 1950 plan shifts between present and past forms. Punctuation and spacing are uneven, as in “To commence with,In 1950.” Practise accurate article use and past-versus-present forms, and build clear sentences around one comparison at a time.
