Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The maps illustrate the changes of Beechwood farm from 1950 to present day.
Overall, there are several new facilities have been added, particularly in the northren area. They have made catagries of every thing.
To begin with, in the east side of first map was area for sheeps. Next, there was a track for traffic. Moreover, a formfouse, holiday cottages and chickens were near to track in the southwest corner of the map, but now there have also made holiday cottags, small parking area in this location.
Main road and river remained at same loction, but in market they introduced a form shop and a parking area in addition and fruit shops remained at same location. Sheep area has converted into a camping field. They installed solar panels in the notheast corner. A barn area also also amked on the road.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify that the farm has changed and mention several relevant features, including the new shop, parking, camping field and solar panels. However, the account only partially covers the main changes, and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the sheep area is described as being in the east, whereas it was north of the track and the camping field is in the north-east today. The farmhouse, barn and chickens were already present in 1950, so saying cottages were near the track in the south-west confuses their locations. The claim that fruit shops remained is also incorrect: the maps show fruit trees, not fruit shops. The response is 141 words, below the required 150. Include a clearer overview and accurately describe the retained fields and changed buildings.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, an overview and two body paragraphs, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “Moreover” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the information does not progress clearly from the 1950 layout to the present-day changes. The second body paragraph jumps between the road, river, shop, fruit trees, sheep and barn, making comparisons difficult to follow. Some linking phrases do not express a clear relationship, and references such as “this location” are hard to interpret because the preceding locations are confused. Organise the report by grouping features that remain, changes to the western fields, and new facilities in the north and east; use precise location references to connect each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “facilities,” “track,” “camping field,” “solar panels” and “corner.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the features being described. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand: “northren,” “catagries,” “formfouse,” “cottags” and “loction.” Some expressions are also inaccurate, such as “fruit shops” for fruit trees and “a barn area” for the barn. Use the exact labels from the maps and practise common phrases for describing plans, such as “was converted into,” “remained in the same location,” and “was added to the north-east corner.” Proofreading spelling would also improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few longer sentences and use past and present forms to compare the maps, but the range of structures is limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “there are several new facilities have been added” combines two incompatible sentence patterns; write “several new facilities have been added.” In “in the east side of first map was area,” the article and sentence structure are missing, while “they have also made holiday cottages” uses an unclear subject and an unsuitable verb form. Tense control is inconsistent when describing the maps, and some sentences lack clear grammatical connections between clauses. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking articles, subject–verb agreement and verb forms.
