Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad change from a sheep field to a more developed farm, and you mention several new features, including solar panels, a farm shop, camping and parking. The comparison that fruit trees remain in both periods is also relevant. However, the account is only partial: important changes such as the holiday cottages replacing the former barn area, the continued farmhouse and chicken enclosure, and the retained fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable plots are not clearly summarised. Some locations are vague or inaccurate; for example, the shop is described as “inside the fruit trees,” while the plan places it between the fruit trees and the internal road. The overview also says the whole field is occupied without clearly identifying the main pattern of change. Select the major retained and added features, and describe their positions precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about 1950 and the present, so the reader can recognise that a comparison is intended. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several details are joined without a clear relationship. For instance, “Near the back road, they added parking along that the camping field and the solar panels” is difficult to follow, while “Along with the road” does not make the relationship between the road, cottages and barn clear. Linking words such as “However” and “but lastly” are used mechanically or do not signal a logical contrast. Organise the description by areas or by retained versus new features, and use clear location references to connect each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “solar panels,” “camping field,” “parking,” “fruit trees” and “holiday cottages,” which helps convey the map’s subject. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “many changes,” “many other shops,” “back road” and “the name is changed.” “Shops” is also misleading because the map shows a farm shop and holiday cottages, not multiple shops. Spelling errors such as “Beechwwod” and “develpment” are noticeable, and repeated use of “field” and “road” makes the description less precise. Build a wider set of map-description terms, especially for location and change, and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentence forms, including the contrast beginning “In 1950 … whereas in the present time,” and the response is generally understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, articles and tense. Examples include “The is vast develpment,” “many other shops has been opened,” and “their is a Fruit trees.” The phrase “in 1950's” also uses an incorrect form for the time reference, and punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and an abrupt line break before “but lastly.” These errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to interpret. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled comparisons using “whereas” or “while,” checking subject–verb agreement and articles.
