The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 8.0)

In 1950, the farm was purely agricultural. The large area in the northeast was designated for sheep grazing, while the southwestern area along the river was split among fruit trees, soft fruits, and vegetables. To the east lay a barn, a farmhouse, and a chicken area, all connected by unpaved tracks leading to a main road running through the north.

Regarding agricultural areas, the fruit trees area has been reduced in size to make room for a farm shop and another small parking area. However, the soft fruit and vegetable plots remain unchanged. While the farmhouse and chicken area remain in their original positions, the barn has been relocated to the south near the vegetable patch. The space previously occupied by the old barn now contains holiday cottages, alongside an additional parking area to the north.By today, notable infrastructural and layout changes have occurred. The original unpaved tracks have been converted into paved roads. The former sheep field in the north has been completely transformed: it now features a camping field with trees, a small parking lot to the west, and a large array of solar panels in the northeast corner.Overall, Beechwood Farm has undergone significant modernization and diversification. While some traditional agricultural land and original buildings have been preserved, much of the farm has been repurposed to accommodate tourism, commercial facilities, and renewable energy production.The two maps illustrate the developments that have taken place at Beechwood Farm from 1950 to the present day.
