Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the two maps, identifying key changes such as the conversion of the sheep area to a camping field and the addition of solar panels. However, the report lacks a clear overview that synthesizes the most significant trends, such as the shift from agricultural focus to tourism and renewable energy. Some details are slightly inaccurate or under-developed, such as the description of the barn's location. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the overall transformation in the introduction or conclusion and focus on comparing the two time periods more explicitly rather than just listing changes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from 1950 to the present day. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'In 1950', 'In recent time'). There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some sentences feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of cohesive devices to connect ideas within and between sentences, such as 'whereas', 'subsequently', or 'in contrast', to create a smoother flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the reader to understand the changes described. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'transportation road' instead of 'access road' and 'Bran location' (likely a typo for barn). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic descriptors. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'situated', 'replaced by', 'converted into', and 'adjacent to', to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the fruit tress', 'passing through center of the site') and verb tenses ('Farm shop construct', 'cottages are establish'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not fully impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for describing changes in maps or processes.
