Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, including the key changes such as the addition of the farm shop, holiday cottages, and solar panels. However, the description of the 1950 layout is somewhat confusing, particularly the reference to the road 'passing through the river' and the 'triangle' shape, which are not clearly supported by the visual data. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between the two time periods could be more analytical. To reach a higher band, ensure that all spatial descriptions are precise and that the overview clearly highlights the most significant transformations rather than just listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'First', 'whereas', and 'Furthermore'. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'two parking slots is opened at attach with road'. The overall structure is coherent, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns or references clearly point back to the intended subjects.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the farm features. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'manufracture' instead of 'converted' or 'built', and 'pannels' instead of 'panels'. The phrase 'is opened at attach with road' is also non-standard. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'holiday cottages' and 'solar panels', the lack of precision in word formation and collocation limits the score. Focusing on accurate spelling and more natural collocations would significantly improve the lexical quality.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('two parking slots is opened', 'areas are remain unchanged') and incorrect preposition usage. The sentence structure is often repetitive, relying on basic patterns. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that verb tenses are used consistently when describing past versus present states. Reducing these frequent errors is essential for moving into the higher bands.
