Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the changes to the sheep area and the addition of solar panels. However, the description is somewhat disorganized and lacks a clear overview. The report mentions specific changes but fails to synthesize the information into a cohesive summary of the overall transformation. Some details, such as the location of the farmhouse, are described in a confusing manner, making it difficult for the reader to visualize the changes. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary paragraph that highlights the most significant trends, such as the shift from agricultural to commercial/energy-focused land use.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into three short paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'there is' or 'there are'. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the lack of clear logical progression makes the text feel like a list of observations rather than a structured report. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks coherence, particularly in the second paragraph where multiple disparate changes are grouped together without clear signposting.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'advance developments are made' and 'comfortable travelling'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with accurate collocations, such as 'area which reserved form chicken' and 'forming sections'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of word-choice errors limit the score. Using more specific terminology related to map description, such as 'converted into', 'relocated', or 'remained unchanged', would improve the quality of the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('fields are remain'), incorrect verb forms ('no changes are notice'), and punctuation errors, such as missing commas and incorrect capitalization. The sentence structure is often repetitive, and the lack of control over basic grammar, such as articles and prepositions, hinders the flow. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and pluralization, which currently detract from the overall clarity of the writing.
