Student answer (Band 6.5)
The given diagram illustrates the area of a farm back in 1950 and the same farm nowadays.
Back in time the farm was completely basic consisting of simple paths and basic vegetables. there were not appropriate facilities back in time. However, nowadays the farm is fully modern with clear roads and some trip sites for the outsiders.
In 1950, there were simply fruit trees but now there is also a shop right there from where the fresh fruit is available. Further soft fruits and vegetables sites have not any considerable difference. In farmhouse area there is a big difference because in this area the place where barn was located earlier was changed, chickens were in the same place during the whole period. However, the place where barn was earlier is completely changed and is transformed into a holiday cottage for the visitors so that they can stay there and enjoy the village life. As there is a river close to the cottage so it gives a very cozy and warm vibe. Further a very large place consisting of the sheep only is divided into two parts. The first region in now a camping field with a parking area besides it. However, in the second region there are now solar panels placed for energy purposes. Thus during the whole time there were very considerable changes including the track is converted into a clean road.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the farm's transformation, such as the conversion of the barn into a cottage, the addition of solar panels, and the change from a track to a road. However, the overview is somewhat weak, and the description lacks a clear, analytical structure. Some details, such as the mention of 'cozy and warm vibe,' are subjective and not appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which requires objective reporting. While the main changes are identified, the comparison between the two time periods could be more precise and better organized to highlight the most significant developments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is occasionally disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'However' is used frequently to start sentences) or slightly mechanical. The progression of information is generally logical, but the transition between the farmhouse area and the agricultural land could be smoother. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved to better group related features, such as separating infrastructure changes from land-use changes.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. Phrases like 'completely basic,' 'some trip sites,' and 'very considerable changes' are somewhat simplistic. There is an attempt to use specific terms like 'solar panels' and 'holiday cottage,' which is positive. However, the range is limited, and some word choices are slightly unnatural or imprecise in an academic context. Improving the use of collocations and more sophisticated descriptive language would enhance the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Further soft fruits and vegetables sites have not any considerable difference' and 'the track is converted into a clean road' (which should be 'has been converted'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances where sentence boundaries are unclear. While the errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures is needed.
