Student answer (Band 5.5)
These plans comparing the state of Beechwood Farm in the 1950's with current time. In 1950, The main structure of the farm is predicated on the major track that divides the Sheep and key factor. Right behind the River, there are Crop cultivations. For example, Two other fruits, Vegetables that located in the between Track and River. If i see the east way of the farming, Chicken's fence. The Farmhouse, Barn is located in the north way from the fence. To speak one's mind directly, 1950's Beechwood farm is disorganized.
But in present, there is little difference from 1950. Based on my observations, main road is connected to Barn. Operators wiped a Sheep that occupies for a large space and New Operations office added in the map. For example, Parking areas, Solar panels are located in the old Sheep's space. Individuals are now allowed to rest in Beechwood,
The reason that led to this line of thought is Holiday cottages and Camping fields are added to the plan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to describe the changes at Beechwood Farm, but it fails to provide a clear overview or a structured comparison. While it mentions some features like the farmhouse, barn, and new additions like solar panels, the description is fragmented and lacks a logical flow. The student struggles to accurately interpret the visual data, leading to vague descriptions such as 'disorganized' or 'little difference', which do not reflect the significant structural changes shown in the plans. Key features are not clearly contrasted, and the report lacks the analytical depth required for a Band 6 or higher. The inclusion of personal opinions like 'To speak one's mind directly' is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow, and the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused (e.g., 'If i see the east way of the farming'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard for the reader to track the location of features on the map. The transition between the 1950s description and the present day is abrupt. Overall, the lack of logical sequencing and the reliance on informal, disjointed phrasing significantly hinder the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. Phrases like 'wiped a Sheep' and 'east way of the farming' are non-standard and impede clarity. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to use precise vocabulary to describe spatial relationships or map features. There is a lack of variety, and the attempt to use more complex language results in awkward collocations. To improve, the student needs to focus on learning specific vocabulary related to describing maps, such as 'situated', 'replaced by', 'converted into', and 'extended'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often cause confusion. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The main structure... is predicated', 'Vegetables that located'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction. The use of 'I' is inappropriate for this task, as it should be written in an objective, third-person tone. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty and lack control. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of apostrophes and capitalization. The frequency of these errors makes the text difficult to read at times.
