The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Two given maps illustrate how the Beechwood Farm evolved from the year 1950 to today. Overall, the farm modernized itself with new tech features and better management of their land.

In fact, in 1950 the farm used tracks to link between its different sections. However, as for today it changed that to roads and allocated some of its previous lands to parking sections. Additionally, some solar panels have been installed in the previous sheep section reflecting a change in their needs ones that matches with today's world. Other than that, a farm shop and a camping field and a barn have been added to the farm's structure. While some new sections have been added, others have been relocated such as the barn switching from a large space to a smaller one but one that is linked to the road. This change happened at the profit of holiday cottage that took its previous space. Moreover, some sections have been totally removed such as the sheep section and others stayed exactly as they were, for instance the farmhouse, chickens, soft fruits and vegetables sections

There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'at the profit of', which is not a standard collocation; 'at the expense of' or 'to make way for' would be more natural. You also use 'ones that matches with today's world', which is slightly informal and wordy. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to map descriptions, such as 'transformed', 'converted', or 'replaced'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'link between its different sections' (should be 'link its different sections') and 'the farm modernized itself' (the farm was modernized).
