Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 92 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The overview is incomplete, and the description of the changes is fragmented and stops abruptly. While the student attempts to identify some features, such as the 'solar panel' and 'carpet roads', the lack of development and the failure to complete the summary significantly impact the score. To improve, you must ensure you cover all key features shown in the maps and provide a full, cohesive summary that meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the text is unfinished, which disrupts the logical flow. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as 'While now' and 'furthermore'. The abrupt ending makes it impossible to assess the overall progression of the response. To improve, focus on organizing your ideas into a clear introduction, an overview of the main trends, and specific details, ensuring each paragraph is fully developed and connected with appropriate linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'very simple planning' and 'simple unplanning' are imprecise and unnatural. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'mudded tracks' instead of 'dirt tracks' or 'unpaved paths'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the visual data accurately. To improve, try to use more precise terminology related to maps and development, such as 'infrastructure', 'modernised', 'converted', or 'replaced', and focus on using collocations correctly to convey your ideas more professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'difference of development between 1950 to till now', 'never implement of any sustainable technology', and 'there are show very modern invention'. These errors indicate a lack of control over basic sentence structures and verb tenses. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage for describing past and present states, and expanding your range to include more complex sentence structures.
