Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the farm site in 1950 and today. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes, which is a requirement for a high band score in Task 1. The description is somewhat repetitive and relies on a list-like approach rather than a comparative analysis. While the key features (the road, the shop, the camping field, etc.) are identified, the lack of a distinct introduction and a clear summary paragraph limits the effectiveness of the response. To improve, ensure you group information logically and highlight the most notable transformations rather than simply listing every detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into three paragraphs, but the structure is problematic. The first paragraph is a run-on sentence that attempts to introduce the topic but fails to do so clearly. The second paragraph is an extremely long, single sentence that makes the text difficult to follow. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as 'First off all' and 'More ever'. The progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of punctuation and the tendency to string clauses together with 'and' repeatedly. Better use of full stops and varied linking words would significantly improve the flow and readability of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate to describe the features of the farm, but it lacks precision and variety. There are several awkward collocations and word-choice errors, such as 'vegetables crafting are' instead of 'vegetable patches' or 'cultivation area', and 'today image' instead of 'current layout'. The range is limited, and the student relies on basic descriptive language. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise terminology related to maps and spatial changes, such as 'transformed into', 'replaced by', or 'situated in the vicinity of'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The grammatical control is weak. The response contains numerous run-on sentences, particularly in the second and third paragraphs, where multiple ideas are joined by 'and' without proper punctuation. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('The plans below shows') and article usage. The sentence structures are repetitive and lack the complexity required for higher bands. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors and the lack of sentence variety significantly impede the quality of the writing. Focusing on sentence boundaries and basic subject-verb agreement is essential for improvement.
