Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features of the farm in 1950 and today, the description is quite brief and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes. You have listed features rather than synthesizing the information to highlight trends or major transformations. To improve, ensure you include an introductory overview that captures the general shift (e.g., from agricultural to tourism-focused) and provide more detailed comparisons between the two time periods to fully develop your response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into three short paragraphs, which is a start, but the flow between sentences is somewhat mechanical. You rely on simple listing rather than using a variety of cohesive devices to link ideas. For example, the transition between the 1950 description and the current day could be smoother. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'passing by that' and 'opposite to that'. To improve, use linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' to guide the reader through the changes more logically and improve the overall progression of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You use repetitive structures like 'there are' and 'there is' to introduce features. While you correctly identify items like 'solar panels', 'holiday cottages', and 'farm shop', the range is limited. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise descriptive language and synonyms to avoid repetition. For instance, instead of saying 'a road replaced the track', you could use 'the track has been superseded by a modern road' or 'the original track has been converted into a road'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'where lived the sheeps' (incorrect word order and pluralization of 'sheep') and 'There are farm shop' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and plural forms. Additionally, try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or passive voice, to describe the changes more accurately (e.g., 'The area where sheep were once kept has been transformed into a parking zone').
