Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the two maps, identifying key changes such as the transition from sheep farming to solar panels and camping facilities. However, the description is somewhat superficial. For instance, it mentions the 'barn' and 'farmhouse' in 1950 but fails to note their removal or repurposing in the current plan. The comparison is present but lacks detail regarding the spatial layout, such as the relocation of the entrance or the specific positioning of the new structures. To reach a higher band, you should provide a more comprehensive overview of the spatial shifts rather than just listing items.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into three paragraphs, which is a logical approach for a comparison task. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'As of today' to signal transitions between the two time periods. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some sentences feel disconnected. For example, the transition between the 1950 description and the current day could be smoother. Additionally, the use of referencing is sometimes repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'alongside' to describe locations, which makes the progression feel slightly stilted rather than fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the features of the farm clearly. You use relevant terms like 'farmland', 'solar panels', and 'road junction'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptors. There are also minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'majority of the farmland for sheep' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'in the farm location' (which is redundant). To improve, try to incorporate more precise geographical and descriptive vocabulary to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'In 1950's' is incorrect (it should be 'In the 1950s'), and 'the Beechwood Farm had majority of the farmland' lacks an article. Additionally, there are punctuation and spacing issues, such as the extra spaces before periods. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and consistent punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
