Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying key changes such as the addition of modern facilities and the relocation of the barn. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the fruit trees and the farmhouse, the description of the spatial layout is occasionally confusing, such as the reference to the 'track of the park' being converted into a road, which is not clearly supported by the visual evidence. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons are more precise and that the overview highlights the most significant trends, such as the shift from agricultural focus to a more commercial/leisure-oriented site.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the general overview to specific details. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'to the north west', 'to the north east', 'to the south west'). There are also issues with punctuation and spacing, such as missing spaces after commas and periods, which disrupts the flow of the text. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the changes (e.g., 'significant transformations', 'replaced', 'converted'). However, there are several spelling errors ('mainy', 'orignal', 'beachwood') and some awkward phrasing. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'demolished', 'expanded', 'redeveloped', or 'remained unchanged', and pay closer attention to spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The pictures represents'), missing articles ('in the present is has been'), and inconsistent capitalization. Punctuation is also problematic, with several instances of missing spaces after punctuation marks. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
