Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by comparing the two maps, but it lacks a clear overview or summary of the main trends. The description is largely a list of features rather than a cohesive report. Some details are inaccurate or speculative, such as stating the river was 'empty' in 1950, which is not supported by the visual data. The response focuses on individual items without effectively synthesising the information to highlight the significant changes, such as the transition from agricultural land to a more commercial and residential site. To improve, you should group related features and provide a clear summary statement in the introduction or conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is divided into two paragraphs, which helps with organization. However, the flow between sentences is mechanical and repetitive. Many sentences start with 'There is' or 'The', which limits the variety of cohesive devices used. The logical progression is somewhat disjointed, as the transition between the 1950 description and the current description could be smoother. Using linking words such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' would help connect your ideas more effectively and demonstrate a better grasp of paragraph structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'constructed', 'area', and 'developed'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'well manufactured' to describe a farm, which is not appropriate in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. To improve, try to use more descriptive verbs and nouns related to map changes, such as 'transformed', 'replaced', 'expanded', or 'converted'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'solar panels are not available at that time') and missing articles or incorrect word forms (e.g., 'track area has constructed'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the frequency of basic grammatical errors prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and using a wider variety of tenses—specifically past simple for the 1950 map and present perfect or present simple for the current map—will improve your accuracy.
