Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying key changes such as the addition of solar panels, holiday cottages, and the parking area. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview of the most significant trends, such as the transition from a purely agricultural site to a more commercial/tourist-oriented one. While the main features are reported, the comparison between the two time periods is basic. To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most striking changes rather than just listing them, and try to group information more logically to show the transformation of the site.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical, with frequent use of 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore'. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly when moving between different areas of the map. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'on the other side of the rode', which lacks a clear anchor point. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus that flows logically from the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'development happen' and 'there are lot of' are simple and lack the precision required for higher bands. There are also some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'rode' instead of 'road' and 'burn field' (likely meant to be 'barn' or 'burnt'). To improve, incorporate more precise terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'replaced', or 'situated', and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense usage, such as 'development happen' instead of 'developments have happened' and 'north eastern are use' instead of 'the north-eastern area was used'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the frequency of basic grammatical errors limit the score. Focusing on consistent tense usage (past for 1950, present for today) is essential for this task.
