Student answer (Band 5.0)
in 1950 the beechwood farm had very limited facilities which are now upgraded to more.,
as we can see the boundary with curve is same and river is passing around the boundary. at the upper left hand corner the road is passing over the river and there is a fruit tree area now which is updated and there is a fruit shop in it. and there is a parking site just cross the road. and the soft fruit area is still same just left to fruit tree room and same the vegetable room just left side to it. and round curve part of the farm is upgraded with holiday cottages at the place of barn. and the barn is in middle which is connected to road . there was a track just passing in front of the rooms which is upgraded to the road .there is another parking site just front of the holiday cottage and the main old sheep area is now upgraded to two parts. right upper corner area is for solar panel and left whole area for the camping field and there is a tree as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the transformation, such as the addition of holiday cottages, solar panels, and the camping field. However, the report lacks a clear overview, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The description is somewhat repetitive and relies on a list-like approach rather than a structured comparison. While the main changes are identified, the lack of a formal introduction and a summary paragraph makes the response feel disjointed. To improve, you should group information logically (e.g., infrastructure changes vs. land-use changes) and provide a clear summary of the most significant trends observed between 1950 and the present day.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which is a significant issue for coherence. The text is presented as a single block, making it difficult to follow the progression of information. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and repetitive manner, often relying on 'and' to connect ideas. There is a lack of logical sequencing; for instance, jumping between the road, the fruit shop, and the parking site without a clear spatial or thematic structure. To improve, you must use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, and incorporate a wider range of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently'.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, often using basic terms like 'upgraded', 'room', and 'area'. There are several instances of imprecise word choice, such as referring to the fruit tree area as a 'fruit tree room' or 'vegetable room', which does not accurately describe the map features. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the changes with precision. To improve, you should use more specific terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'converted into', 'replaced by', 'extended', or 'demolished', and avoid repeating the same adjectives or nouns throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the road is passing over the river'), incorrect prepositions, and run-on sentences. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent capitalization and comma usage. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. For example, 'the barn is in middle which is connected to road' shows a lack of control over relative clauses and articles. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using articles correctly before nouns. Increasing the variety of sentence structures will also help improve your score.
