IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The maps illustrate how Beechwood Farm changed between 1950 and the present day.
Overall, the farm has undergone substantial redevelopment, changing from a traditional agricultural farm into a mixed-use site that combines farming with tourism. Although some agricultural features, including the fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetable fields, farmhouse and chicken area, have remained, several new facilities have been introduced, and the transport network has been modernised.
On the western side of the farm, the fruit trees, soft fruit fields and vegetable plots have remained largely unchanged. However, a farm shop has been constructed near the entrance, together with a parking area. Furthermore, the former track has been replaced by a road leading towards the centre of the farm.
More noticeable changes have taken place on the eastern side. The land that was previously used for sheep farming has been converted into a camping field and an area containing solar panels. The barn has been moved to a more central location, while a number of holiday cottages have been built beside the farmhouse. In addition, extra roads and another parking area have been added to improve access throughout the site. Despite these developments, the farmhouse and chicken enclosure remain in the same locations.

The paragraphing is skilful, and the referencing is clear throughout the text. The flow of information is smooth and professional.
