Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. The content is also underdeveloped; while it attempts to describe the changes between 1950 and the present, the information is inaccurate (e.g., claiming 1950 had more advanced systems) and lacks a clear, analytical overview. The description of the map features is incomplete, and the response ends abruptly mid-sentence, meaning the task is not fully addressed. To improve, you must ensure you reach the word count, provide a clear summary of the main trends, and accurately interpret the visual data provided in the diagrams.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'In 1950' and 'But today'. The abrupt ending of the text prevents the development of a coherent conclusion or a cohesive flow of information. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the comparison of the two maps.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'facilities' and 'developed'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'huge developed' instead of 'significant developments' and 'establish' instead of 'established'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to map descriptions, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'expanded', or 'modernised', and ensure you use the correct word forms (nouns vs. verbs) to convey your meaning accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'their are' instead of 'there are', 'lack facilities' instead of 'a lack of facilities', and 'holiday cottage had been change' instead of 'has been changed'. The sentence structures are simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. The frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense usage suggest a limited control over basic grammar. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, paying close attention to verb tenses when describing past and present states, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect prepositions.
