The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The maps compare the layout of Beechwood farm in 1950 and its current layout.

Overall, it is evident that the farm has undergone significant changes, as much of the agricultural area has been transformed into multifunctional land site featuring solar panels, camping field and parkings. While, several farming activities including fruit growing, vegetable cultivation, chicken rearing have been retained.

To begin with, in the year 1950 the western side of the farm was covered with fruit trees, soft-fruit cultivation and vegetables fields, while a large sheep grazing area occupied the northern section of the farm. Furthermore, the south-eastern area near the river contained a barn and chicken enclosure, all connected by a network of tracks

Today, the fruit trees, soft fruits and the vegetables area, chicken enclosure and farmhouse remain in the original locations, while the barn was converted into holiday cottages. However, the sheep pasture has been completely replaced with several new facilities. Solar panels have been installed in north east side of the farm and camping fields have been added in the northern section. Moreover, a farm shop have been constructed in the the fruit trees area with a nearby parking lot, finally the tracks networks have been transformed into roads.
