Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the farm's transformation, such as the addition of solar panels, holiday cottages, and the farm shop. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes, which is a requirement for Task 1. The description is somewhat fragmented, and the comparison between the two time periods is not fully developed. For instance, the mention of 'sheep area' is repeated without clearly contrasting the total loss of agricultural land in favor of tourism and energy production. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary paragraph that highlights the overall trend of the site's development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by informal phrasing and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. Phrases like 'Let's have a look' and 'Let's look picture' are inappropriate for an academic report. While there is some attempt to link ideas, the transitions are often mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate the different types of changes (e.g., infrastructure vs. land use). Improving the use of linking words such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in contrast' would help create a more professional and coherent structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and academic tone required for a high band score. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'valuable things,' 'innovatory,' and 'tourist attraction place.' The use of 'marvelous' is too subjective and informal for a descriptive report. While the student successfully identifies key features like 'solar panels' and 'holiday cottages,' the range of vocabulary is limited. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise, neutral, and descriptive language suitable for reporting on maps or diagrams.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'The above two pictures depicts' (subject-verb agreement error), 'remains same' (missing article), and 'which is going to be more beneficial' (clunky phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of minor errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
