Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the farm plans, identifying key changes such as the addition of solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall task achievement. While the main features are reported, the description lacks sufficient detail and comparative analysis to fully develop the response. The overview is quite brief and does not effectively highlight the most significant transformations. To improve, you should aim to provide a more comprehensive summary of the changes and ensure you meet the minimum word count requirement to avoid a penalty.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To commence with', 'To sum up'). There are also issues with referencing; for instance, 'that all space' and 'that is replaced' are grammatically awkward and hinder the flow of ideas. The progression of information is logical, moving from the overview to specific details, but the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the writing feel disjointed. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring clearer pronoun references would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'changes', 'place', and 'structure'. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'highest changes can be see' (should be 'greatest changes can be seen') and 'fruits trees' (should be 'fruit trees'). To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate more specific vocabulary related to maps and changes, such as 'transformed', 'converted', 'remained constant', or 'delineated'. Expanding your range of descriptive language will help you convey information more accurately and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'river remain same' (subject-verb agreement), 'in both the blueprint' (pluralization), and 'major changes can see' (passive voice error). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they often contain errors, such as 'that all space are covered'. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, correct use of articles, and the passive voice, which is essential for describing map changes. Increasing the variety of sentence structures will also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
