The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The given diagrams illustrate the design of Beechwood Farm in 1950 and contrast it with the farm's current plan after redesigning.

Overall, the major infrastructure, including the farmhouse, the area for chickens and the land distribution for growing soft fruits and vegetables has remained the same, but a lot of new features have been added like the solar panels and holiday cottages.

At first glance, it is abundantly clear that back in 1950, the entire northern portion of the farm was reserved for sheep. Next, a track ran through the middle of the farm. While on the south-western end of the farm, three plots were created to grow fruit trees, soft trees and vegetables, the south-eastern part was mainly used as a barn and farmhouse in addition to being home for chickens.

Today, the old track has been converted to a road and the area for sheep has been replaced by solar panels, a camping field and two parking spaces - one each in the left and right end of the farm's norther portion. The barn has been shifted and provided connectivity with the road. Moreover, a row of holiday cottages has been constructed in its place. Although the land for soft fruits and vegetables has remained as it was earlier, the part for fruit trees has been reduced due to setting up of a farm shop.
