Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response identifies the main features of the farm in 1950 and today, such as the removal of the sheep area and the addition of solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the description is quite superficial and lacks a clear overview or a structured comparison. The information is presented as a list of features rather than a cohesive summary. While the main changes are mentioned, the lack of precise terminology (e.g., describing the layout) and the failure to synthesize the information effectively limits the development of the response. To improve, you should group features logically and provide a clear summary statement that highlights the most significant transformations between the two time periods.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into short, fragmented paragraphs. There is a lack of logical progression between sentences, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive (e.g., 'there is', 'is there'). The text relies on simple, additive linking words, which makes the flow feel mechanical rather than fluid. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate the different stages of the comparison. To improve, you should use a wider range of linking words and transition phrases to connect your ideas, such as 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'As for the changes,' to guide the reader through the comparison more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple structures like 'there is' and 'area'. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'caping area' (likely meaning camping) and 'the different is' (should be 'the difference is'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the visual information with precision. To improve, you should learn specific vocabulary related to describing maps and changes, such as 'converted into,' 'replaced by,' 'expanded,' or 'demolished.' Using more precise nouns and adjectives will help you convey the information more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This plans illustrates'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'the sheep area is too big of all those area'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, and there are very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with run-on sentences and missing articles. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions. Developing the ability to combine simple sentences into complex ones will also help increase your score.
