Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the maps, including the conversion of the cattle area into solar panels and a campsite, and the development of the track into a road. However, the description is somewhat imprecise. For instance, the student mentions 'ship farming' (likely a misspelling of sheep) and refers to 'fruit tries' and 'softfuit', which are unclear. While the main changes are identified, the comparison between the two time periods could be more analytical. The overview is present but lacks a clear summary of the most significant transformation, such as the shift from agricultural focus to tourism and energy production.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Furthermore', and 'However' are used to link sentences. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical errors, such as the comma usage in 'Overall , it is clearly seen'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when describing the location of the new developments. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between the description of the 1950s layout and the modern-day changes would enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but contains several spelling errors and imprecise word choices that hinder clarity. Examples include 'ship' instead of 'sheep', 'tries' instead of 'trees', 'softfuit' instead of 'soft fruit', and 'fruitary wield' which is unclear. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'solar panels', 'holiday cottages', and 'vegetable farm', the frequent spelling mistakes and non-standard collocations limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and using more precise terminology for geographical features and land use.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('structural changes has been made'), incorrect verb tenses ('the track is now became a road'), and awkward phrasing ('some layout were being upgraded'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma placement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for tense consistency would be highly beneficial.
