Student answer (Band 6.0)

The maps compare the Beechwood Farm's scenary in 1950 with it's present scenery.

Overall, the side allocated for sheep in 1950, experienced most of the changes today with different additions. Although the entire site structure has not changed much but the tracks have been transformed into roads for better transportation for the visitors with holiday cottages inclusion now.

Solar panels, two parking lot and a camping field have been built at the farm presently which were previously kept only for sheeps. Moreover tracks are changed into roads now. At the end of the road, holiday cottages have been built now in the previous barn's location and the barn has been moved beside the farmhouse at the end of the linking of the two roads.

Beside the main road, fruit trees, vegetables and soft fruits garden have been kept as 1950. However a farm shop has been opened at present by the road of the fruit trees. The stream of the river and location of the main road have been same since 1950

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the maps and provided a clear comparison between 1950 and the present. You highlighted the key changes, such as the conversion of sheep grazing land into recreational facilities like solar panels and a camping field. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mention the changes, it could be more precise by summarizing the shift from agricultural use to a more diversified, tourism-oriented site. Additionally, some descriptions of locations, such as the barn's relocation, are slightly confusing. Overall, you covered all parts of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Although', which help the flow of information. However, the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'at the end of the linking of the two roads'. Improving the use of cohesive devices to link ideas more fluidly would elevate this score. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the site's development.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the changes, using terms like 'transformed', 'additions', and 'recreational'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'scenary' (scenery), 'it's' (its), and 'side' (site). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations related to map descriptions, such as 'undergone significant development' or 'remained unchanged'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the side allocated... experienced most of the changes' (should be 'site'), 'two parking lot' (should be 'lots'), and 'the stream of the river... have been same' (should be 'has remained the same'). These errors are noticeable but rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and pluralization.
