Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given plan gives the information about the Beachwood Farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Overall, during 1950 there were no facilities of solar panels but a river, farmhouse and barn were there. But in today's time the track has been converted into a road and other facilities such as solar panels are installed there and parking spaces are also there.

Commencing with the year 1950, here the three fields were present for farming included fruit trees , soft fruits and for vegetables. Furthermore, it was seen that the track was in a triangular shape near the farm, and the barn. Across the farmhouse A rectangular space is used for keeping chickens. Moreover, in the south about 35% of the farm was covered by sheep and river flows in lower side of farm.

But in today's time, the solar panels are installed and the farming area chickens and farmhouse are still on the same place. Moreover., the barn changes its place and now present in between joining two roads. In addition, sheep area is replaced by installing solar panels and half by camping field. Two more parking spaces are added near the road and the holiday cottages are also there.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the farm site in 1950 and today. You successfully identified key changes such as the addition of solar panels, holiday cottages, and the conversion of the track into a road. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant trends, such as the shift from agricultural focus to tourism and renewable energy. Additionally, some details are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as the description of the barn's location and the specific percentages mentioned for the sheep area, which are not clearly supported by the visual data. To improve, focus on grouping information logically and ensuring that all comparisons are precise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into four paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the past to the present. You use some cohesive devices like 'Commencing with', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition between the description of the 1950s and the present day could be smoother. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when describing the movement of the barn. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'facilities', 'converted', 'installed', and 'rectangular space'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'in today's time' (a non-standard collocation) and 'lower side of farm'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. To reach a higher score, try to incorporate more specific descriptive language related to maps and spatial changes, and ensure that your collocations are natural and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'during 1950 there were no facilities of solar panels' (awkward phrasing) and 'the barn changes its place' (tense inconsistency; should be 'has changed'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with an unnecessary period after 'Moreover'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb tenses when describing past and present states will significantly improve your accuracy.
