The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The maps compare the layout of Beechwood Farm in 1950 with its current layout.
Overall, the farm has undergone significant changes over time, with several new facilities being added. Although the areas used for fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables have remained unchanged, parking areas, a camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages have been added, while some of the tracks have been converted into roads.
One of the most noticeable changes can be seen in the northeastern part of the farm. In 1950, this area was used exclusively for sheep farming. However, today, it contains several new facilities and recreational features, including a parking area, a camping field and solar panels. Moreover, the tracks have been converted into roads to improve access for visitors.
The barn, which was located in the southeastern part of the farm in 1950, has now been relocated to a road junction further south. A row of holiday cottages has been built on the site of the former barn, while another parking area has been added beside the road. The farmhouse and chicken enclosure remain in their original locations. In addition, a farm shop has been constructed near the main road, while the areas used for fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables have remained unchanged
