IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The maps illustrate the layout of a farm in 1950 and the changes that have taken place up to the present day.
Overall, it is clear that the farm has undergone significant changs. Several new facilities have been addad, including a farm shop, parking areas, holiday cottages, a camping field and solar panels. In contrast, some original features, such as the sheep yard, have been removed or replaced.
In 1950, a farm contained several different areas, including a farmhouse, a barn, a sheep yard, a vegetable area, fruite trees and a chicken area. There was also a track connecting the farm to the main road. The river ran alongside the farm and its position has remained unchanged.
Today, the fruit-tree area has been partly developed, with a farm shop added to it, while the soft-fruit area has remained unchanged. The sheep yard has been completely removed and replaced by a parking area and a camping field. In addition, solar panels have been installed beside the parking area. The original barn has been replaced by holiday cottages, while a new barn has been built near the junction.
The vegetable area has remained unchanged. There are now two parking areas, with one located near the main road and the other beside the solar panels. The holiday cottages are situated in front of the farmhouse.
