The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The two maps illustrate the changes in the development of an Beechwood farm between the 1950s and the present day.

In the 1950s, it can be clearly seen that the north-east of the river was used for agriculture and sheep grazing. Alongside the river, the land was used for fruit trees, soft fruits, and vegetables, with a track running through the farm. In the south-east corner, separate areas were devoted to a barn, a farmhouse, and a large area for chickens.

Nowadays, the farm has undergone several changes. The north-east corner has been converted into a separate camping field for recreational activities, along with its own parking area. In addition, a large number of solar panels have been installed in one corner of this area. Furthermore, the track has been converted into a road. In the south-east corner, holiday cottages have been added while the farmhouse and the area for chickens remain. Moreover, a separate barn has been built and is connected to both sides of the road. A farm shop has also been constructed in the area where the fruit trees are located.

Overall, there have been a significant number of changes to the farm over time. It has been modernized and developed for a variety of purposes while still maintaining some of its original agricultural features, compared with the farm in the 1950s.
