IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two maps illustrate the changes in the development on the site of an Beechwood farm in 1950 and in present day.

In 1950s it can be clearly seen that the north-east of the river is used by agriculture and sheep grazing. Alongside the river, the land was used for fruits trees, soft fruits, and vegetables with the track running to the farm. In the south-east corner the specific portion has been devoted to barn, farmhouse, and a large place for chickens.

Nowadays the north-east corner has separate camping field for leisure activities with their separate parking area. Moreover, the number of solar panels have been install in corner. The track was converted into road and in the south-east corner there is an addition of holiday cottages with existing farmhouse and place for chickens. In addition, a separate barn was constructed which was connected to both sides of the road. Furthermore, a separate farm shop was made in the fruit trees land.

Overall, there is a significant number of changes made in nowadays farm, that made them modernized and useful for other various activities as compared to 1950s farm.
