Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response effectively identifies the main features of the farm's transformation. You successfully contrast the 1950 layout with the current site, highlighting key changes such as the conversion of the sheep grazing area into a camping field and the replacement of the barn with holiday cottages. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the overall trend. However, to reach a higher band, ensure that all details are accurate; for instance, you mentioned solar panels, which are not explicitly visible in the provided image, and the description of the track conversion could be more precise regarding its new function as a road. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a clear focus on the significant developments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that separate the past and present states. The progression of information is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'While', 'In 1950', and 'Today', to guide the reader. However, the cohesion is occasionally mechanical, and some sentences are slightly repetitive in structure. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between the description of the past and the present is even smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, contributing to the overall clarity of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'transformed', 'agricultural area', 'facilities', and 'converted'. The vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for describing maps. There are some minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as the extra spaces before commas and the lack of an article before 'road' ('converted into road'). While you successfully convey the necessary information, incorporating more precise collocations or descriptive adjectives would elevate the lexical range. The current vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the changes clearly without impeding the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('remains' should be 'remain' to match the plural subjects) and missing articles ('converted into road' should be 'converted into a road'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures to demonstrate greater grammatical control.
