Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully identifies the main features of the farm's transformation. You have clearly contrasted the 1950 layout with the current site, highlighting the shift from agricultural use to tourism. The overview is effective, and the key changes—such as the conversion of the sheep grazing area and the addition of holiday cottages—are well-noted. To reach a higher band, ensure that all comparisons are precise; for instance, you mention the 'old barn' being replaced, but the prompt's visual data should be described with more specific spatial references to ensure the reader can easily follow the changes across the map.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that separate the past and present states. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as the awkward placement of commas and spaces before punctuation marks (e.g., 'including ,camping field'). Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent punctuation would enhance the flow and make the transitions between the two time periods more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the changes, using terms like 'transformed', 'converted', and 'established'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'track ran from the north to the east' (which is slightly vague) and 'a new small barn has been placed at the southern side of the road'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and collocation strength required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire to include more descriptive adjectives and precise spatial terminology would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly regarding article usage (e.g., 'between the road and fruit trees') and punctuation (e.g., missing spaces after commas or unnecessary spaces before them). Some sentences are slightly run-on, such as the final paragraph, which lists many changes in a single long sentence. To improve, focus on using more varied complex structures and ensuring that punctuation is used accurately to separate distinct clauses and items in a list.
