Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively identifies the main features of the farm's transformation. You have successfully highlighted the shift from agricultural use to a tourist-oriented site while noting the elements that remained unchanged. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that all specific changes are described with greater precision; for instance, the location of the solar panels and the new barn could be more clearly integrated into the spatial description. Overall, you have covered all parts of the task well, providing a logical comparison between the two time periods.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the past and present states. You use cohesive devices such as 'While', 'In 1950', and 'Today' to guide the reader through the timeline. However, the cohesion within the final paragraph is slightly mechanical due to the long list of items separated by commas. Using more varied linking phrases or breaking down the list into smaller, more descriptive sentences would improve the flow and make the progression of information feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the changes, using terms like 'transformed', 'converted', and 'established'. The vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for the context of describing maps. There are minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'camping fields' (plural) when the map shows a single area, and the phrasing 'two parking spaces for visitors' could be more precise if referring to a parking area. To improve, try to incorporate more precise geographical or descriptive vocabulary to enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary space before the comma in 'road ,sheep' and 'visitors, a new'. Additionally, some sentences are slightly run-on, such as the final paragraph, which contains a long list of clauses. While these errors do not impede communication, they do affect the overall fluency. Focusing on consistent punctuation and ensuring that complex sentences are correctly joined with appropriate conjunctions will help you achieve a higher score.
